Due to terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001, and recent federal legislation and state authorizations, the Michigan Department of Environmental Quality (MDEQ) actively participates in numerous Infrastructure Security Program activities. The federal Public Health Security and Bioterrorism Preparedness and Response Act of 2002 (Bioterrorism Act) requires drinking water systems to comply with requirements by certain dates as a part of the nation's homeland security efforts.
