| Cross Connection Control Manual |

The Third Edition of the Cross Connection Rules Manual is available for distribution. Requests for the manual should be directed to Diane Reck at (517) 241-1300. Revisions from the previous manual (Second Edition) include:
- References to Department of Public Health were replaced with Department of Environmental Quality. References to other state agencies were also replaced with their current designation. References to state plumbing requirements now include references to the International Plumbing Code (IPC) of 1997, where appropriate.
- Page 12, Section 14.3.2 regarding Reduced Pressure Principle Backflow Preventers was revised to explain the use of both RPPBP and RPZ as abbreviations for this type of device.
- Page 25, Section 14.3.7.1 regarding Check Valves has been rewritten to distinguish between single check valves, double check valves, and vented double check valves and to identify acceptable applications for the same.
- Pages 43 and 44, Section 14.4.5.4 regarding Funeral Homes has been revised with an expanded explanation of the need for vacuum breakers and their proper location near the ceiling in prep rooms.
- Page 46, Section 14.4.5.8 regarding Fire Protection Systems has been revised to recommend fire protection devices in accordance with IPC requirements. This eliminates the complicated AWWA Manual M -14 class system as a reference and this AWWA information was deleted from the manual (formally contained in Appendix G – Fire Systems).
- Page 49, Section 14.4.5.12 has been added regarding appropriate protection for Dental Offices.
- Pages 51 and 52, Section 14.6.3 regarding Testing of Devices has been revised to include a requirement for testing of all testable devices (not just RPZs as in the past). The model ordinance (Appendix A, Pages 67 and 68) and model program (Appendix C, Pages 71 and 72) have also been revised to include this requirement.
- Pages 58 and 59, Section 14.8.2 regarding Submerged Inlet or Connection into Pipes or Tanks , Table II comments have been revised to recognize IPC standards as adequate for protecting carbonated beverage dispensers (Comment No. 6). Additionally, "High" and "Low" pressure boilers are now defined under Comment No. 7.
- Pages 85 and 86, Appendix F, the Water Supply Cross Connection Report has been revised to reflect the current form and includes MDEQ District office locations and jurisdictions.
Pages 87 through 96, Appendix G (this was formerly Appendix H), Approved Backflow Devices has been updated to include all devices listed in the previous manuals and all devices approved to date by the State Plumbing Board.
