AWR Missions and Goals

Mission Statement:

 

The AWR program, as overseen by the MDEQ Environmental Science and Services Division (ESSD), is committed to efficiently and effectively overseeing data collection and quality assurance of environmental information transmitted to the Department of Environmental Quality pursuant to reporting requirements set forth in Michigan's Natural Resources and Environmental Protection Act, P.A. 451, as amended, Part 31, (Section 3111) and further outlined in Part 9 Administrative Rules (Wastewater Reporting Rules).  This includes providing support to other MDEQ's Water Division and Waste and Hazardous Materials Division) which interact with the AWR program functions and provide compliance/enforcement efforts pursuant to the established MOU.

 

Objectives/Goals:

  • Taking the lead role in providing education, information and assistance, and the dissemination of pertinent information on the reporting requirements under the AWR program.
  • Maintaining all reporting-related documents, brochures, and forms associated with the AWR program.
  • Receiving and processing reports submitted under the AWR program.
  • Operating and maintaining the necessary database for AWR program data.
  • Operating and maintaining the ESSD web page for the AWR program.
  • Tracking reporting under the AWR and issuing advisory letters to entities that fail to file timely reports. After two advisory letters, non-reporting entities will be referred to the WD or the WHMD for appropriate compliance/enforcement response.
  • Preparing periodic evaluations and summary reports of data collected under the AWR program for use by the Department of Environmental Quality carrying out its water pollution control programs.
