ArcView can be used to create a map for the Hydrologic Engineering Center's Hydrologic Modeling System (HEC-HMS). To do this, you will need to download the conversion files (920 Kb Zip), extract and save them to a folder, and follow the instructions below.
To add a map to HMS using ArcView:
-
Create a View that has a watershed delineation polygon theme and a river/stream/drain line theme.
-
From the File drop-down menu, export the View as CGM Clear Text.
-
Place the file in a root directory to make step 4 easier (example c:).
-
Start ARCHMS.EXE.
-
Specify name and location of CGM file (example c:arcmap).
-
Specify name and location of map file to be created (example c:hmsmap).
-
Move the map file to the desired location.
-
Start HEC-HMS.
-
Open the basin model.
-
Go to File, Basin Model Attributes.
-
Select the Files tab.
-
Specify the map file location.
