MICHIGAN

Clean Cities- The Greater Lansing Area Clean Cities Coalition includes private, semi-private, public, and governmental entities located in the tri-county area of Ingham, Eaton, and Clinton counties committed to improving air quality, reducing green house gas emissions, and developing environmentally-sound transportation fuels and systems. Web resources include news, events, and links to alternative fuels, education, and state/federal government programs.

Grand Rapids- The city of Grand Rapids implemented a community sustainability partnership that won them a sustainability award from the United Nations University. Grand Rapids is the first city in the nation to achieve this award and is one of only thirty throughout the world. The city's sustainability plan is available on-line.

Sustainable Detroit- Sustainable Detroit is committed to promoting a sustainable Detroit region through inspiration and networking. The organization is working towards real change. Sustainable Detroit provides sustainability resources and networking opportunities in the Metro-Detroit area. This website includes links to sustainability organizations, an events calendar, volunteer opportunities, mailing lists, and an online forum.

OTHER CITIES

Austin Sustainable Communities Initiative- The Austin website highlights the steps taken by the Austin community to achieve triple bottom line objectives. This website includes the full text of the Sustainable Communities Initiative plan.

Chicago- Believe Chicago is a sustainability hub that provides information on events and resources in the Chicago metropolitan area. This web provides information on the city as it moves towards its quest to creatively complete sustainability-themed challenges and tasks.

Cleveland- EcoCity Cleveland is a non-profit environmental planning organization that promotes sustainable community development throughout Northeastern Ohio.  The organization promotes environmentally friendly redevelopment that improves quality of life and makes cities more sustainable.  This website includes information and resources on the Cleveland EcoVillage, Citizen's Bioregion Plan for Northeast Ohio, Transit-Oriented Development, health/lifestyle tips, and a list of publications.

San Francisco- The San Francisco Department of the Environment works to promote and preserve the environment.  Program topics include energy, environmental justice, green building, and green purchasing and links include the 2004 annual report, fact sheets and green topics.

Seattle- Seattle Community Network is a free access computer network and civic forum promoting awareness of issues such as sustainable development in the Seattle area. Related resources include links to the community directory, sustainability topics, Puget Sound Region area organizations and projects, and national non-profit organizations.
