The June edition of the Energy Services Bulletin features an actual question posed to the Power Line, an information clearinghouse that serves Western Area Administration utilities and their customers. The customer requested, "information on solar and wind technologies for agricultural applications such as irrigation, cattle and alfalfa production."

The California Energy Commission offers some great on-farm irrigation resources on their website, including the following series:

T he California Energy Commission offers Energy in Agriculture Programs - On-Farm Irrigation.

The US Department of Agriculture (USDA) recently announced the release of the "Energy Estimator for Animal Housing," the fourth Web-based energy awareness tool the USDA has developed as part of their overall energy strategy. Designed to help agricultural producers reduce energy costs related to animal housing, the tool evaluates the energy use and costs associated with heating, lighting and ventilating poultry, swine and dairy housing. Download the tool at http://ahat.sc.egov.usda.gov/. The other three energy estimators focus on tillage, nitrogen fertilizer, and irrigation.
