The Metal Finishing Pollution Prevention Initiative (MFP2I) is a Michigan Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) voluntary stakeholder partnership that promotes the adoption of pollution prevention (P2) through assistance, technology demonstration projects, and education outreach. DEQ’s partners are metal finishing industry trade associations, the Michigan Manufacturing Technology Center, the National Center for Manufacturing Sciences, municipalities, and the Michigan Water Environmental Association.
Technical assistance is provided through a multi-tiered approach to technology transfer that includes publishing P2 case studies, preparing metal finishing P2 implementation tools, offering free RETAP assessments as well as implementing demonstration projects. DEQ helps members develop and implement P2 technologies and practices by providing financial assistance through matching grants and the Michigan Small Business Pollution Prevention Loan Program.
