Businesses are eligible for a summer intern if they employ less than 500 people, are in compliance with all applicable regulatory requirements, and have either a RETAP assessment or a P2 project that is approved by the Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ). Interested companies must submit a proposal for a P2 project to the DEQ that reduces waste generation at the source, reuses a waste onsite, or recycles a waste material by the December 30, 2005, deadline.
Projects that involve research, evaluation, or the implementation of a P2 practice or technology are acceptable. P2 project examples are equipment modifications, raw materials substitutions, housekeeping or maintenance improvements, increasing energy efficiency, and on-site water conservation. The interns will be available for placement as earlier as the second week of May, 2006, and will continue to work until the third week of August, 2006. All interns will be required to work a 40 hour work week throughout the duration of the program. All interns are junior or senior standing engineering majors (mechanical, chemical, environmental, civil, or electrical) and they will be a student at one of participating university partners:

This is a great opportunity for a business to implement a P2 technology, and/or strategy with the assistance of a college junior or senior level engineering student, at no cost to the company; while providing practical educational opportunities to a Michigan college student.
