In October 2006, Governor Jennifer M. Granholm issued Executive Directive No. 2007-6, "Promotion of Green Chemistry for Sustainable Economic Development and Protection of Public Health." The Executive Directive outlines the creation of a Green Chemistry Support Program and Green Chemistry Roundtable representing public health, industry, environmental, higher education, local government, and the general public to advise the DEQ on pursuing the objectives laid out in the Directive.
On December 12, 2007, the DEQ met with stakeholders to discuss actions that could be taken both immediately and long-term, using resources at hand to accomplish the important objectives of this Directive. Now, we would like to hear from you.
Please provide input on how the DEQ should:
- promote green chemistry research,
- encourage student enrollment in the sciences,
- foster development and commercialization of green technologies,
- identify barriers that could inhibit adoption of green technologies,
- solicit public input and facilitate dialog on green chemistry,
- develop criteria for green chemistry awards for industry and academia, as well as
- set priorities on what green chemistry issues are of the most importance.
