The 2008 Competition will be a pilot program that will concentrate on student projects that were completed prior to December 30, 2007. All Michigan institutions of higher education will be invited to participate in the competition and the judges will be composed of DEQ staff, universities, and experts in the fields of green chemistry and green engineering. The following timetable will show the scheduled events for the 2008 Competition:
-
Post a "Call for Papers" by February 20, 2008, with all past and current university partners; requesting students to submit abstracts that meet the competition'
s criteria.
-
The abstracts will consist of a one-page application that describes their design project. The deadline for all application submittals is March 28, 2008.
-
Applications will be reviewed by DEQ staff to determine which ones have merit to proceed to the next phase of the competition by April 25, 2008.
-
Selected applicants will be invited to submit their design projects to compete for an award in the 2008 Competition by June 19, 2008.
-
Judges will be selected from DEQ staff, interested university, and technical experts to review applications and to determine the winners from the four award categories (see competition award categories). There is no guarantee that there will be a winner in each of the four categories.
-
Review of the applications will be completed by the second week of August 2008, and all applicants will be informed about their results. Award recipients and their projects will be posted in the DEQ, ESSD Bulletin and possibly recognized at a green chemistry meeting in September 2008.
