Contact:  Robert McCann (517) 241-7397
Agency: Environmental Quality

March 6, 2008

Department of Environmental Quality Director Steven E. Chester announced today that U.S. Manufacturing Corporation of Warren has been designated as a Clean Corporate Citizen, becoming the latest member of the voluntary program recognizing environmental stewardship across the state. U.S. Manufacturing Corporation manufactures automotive components for the automotive industry.

"I would like to congratulate U.S. Manufacturing Corporation on becoming a part of the Clean Corporate Citizen Program," said Director Chester. "They are helping demonstrate that the next generation of manufacturing in Michigan will ensure our environment is protected while helping to grow our economy."

The company has developed a comprehensive environmental management system that focuses on integrating environmental targets into its daily operations. Some of the company's current goals include reducing liquid waste streams by 10 percent from 2006 levels, as well as reducing the use of nitric acid in the wastewater treatment system and reducing overall energy use of natural gas.

"We are pleased to receive this recognition as a Clean Corporate Citizen, and will continue to do our part to support environmental initiatives and maintain our pollution prevention programs at our facility," said Brian A. Simon, President and CEO of U.S. Manufacturing Corporation. "I am honored to accept this designation as a Clean Corporate Citizen on behalf of all of the employees at USM who made it possible through their efforts to achieve this status."

Clean Corporate Citizen designation is made to companies that adopt facility-specific Environmental Management Systems, have active and on-going pollution prevention initiatives at their facility, and have a consistent record of compliance with state and federal environmental requirements. The C3 Program is open to companies regulated under any of Michigan's environmental statutes, and designations are reviewed and renewed on a regular basis.
