The DEQ today presented one of its highest environmental stewardship honors to Hemlock Semiconductor Group's Michigan site. The Saginaw County facility earned its designation as a member of the state's Clean Corporate Citizen Program Jan. 9, becoming the 182nd Michigan facility to receive this honor.
The C3 Program is a voluntary program that recognizes environmental stewardship at Michigan facilities. Candidates demonstrate facility-specific environmental management systems, active pollution prevention initiatives, and a consistent record of compliance with state and federal environmental requirements.
Hemlock Semiconductor manufactures hyper-pure polycrystalline silicon for semiconductor and solar photovoltaic industries. The company has been in business for more than 50 years and employs approximately 1,000 workers.
"It is an honor to receive recognition as one of Michigan's top environmental stewards," said David Rengering, Hemlock Semiconductor's Michigan site manager. "Managing the raw materials we use and the products we make in a safe and environmentally responsible manner is important."
Hemlock Semiconductor also actively participates in the American Chemistry Council's Responsible Care® initiative, a comprehensive program, and fulfills all the required reporting annually. They have received the RC14001 certificate in 2008 along with the ISO 14001 certificate for environmental management.
