Four organizations receive DEQ Community P2 Grant funding

The DEQ today announced nearly $234,000 in Community Pollution Prevention Grant funding to four organizations in Michigan for projects that will focus on unused household drugs.

Pharmaceutical consumption continues to increase, and many prescription drugs have been found to persist in the environment when disposed of improperly. The grants are designed to increase public access to free, convenient, safe, and environmentally friendly drug collection programs, and to help develop successful disposal programs that can be implemented in other areas of the state.

    The organizations receiving awards include:

    • Marquette County Solid Waste Management Authority ($30,370.37)
    • Superior Watershed Partnership ($96,845.18)
    • Tip of the Mitt Watershed Council  ($99,795.67)
    • Resource Recovery and Recycling Authority of Southwest Oakland County ($6,005.00)

Grant recipients are required to match the state funds by at least 25 percent.
