BatsLIVE: A Distance Learning Adventure is offering a Web Seminar exciting, FREE education program to bring bat conservation to life in your classroom and community. Web seminars will be offered on April 18, 2012 and May 3, 2012 with the National Wildlife Federation so you can learn about bats and get some great ideas about teaching about bats. Check out all of the resources at the BatsLIVE web site found at http://BatsLIVE.pwnet.org. ALSO, save the date for a FREE electronic field trip to be held on Thursday May 17, 2012. Project Learning Tree Workshop
Register now for the Project Learning Tree Workshop presented by the Environmental Education in Urban Schools Initiative. The Project Learning Tree Curriculum provides K-8 educators with a wide variety of classroom and outdoor activities to help teach students about Michigan's forests and environment. The 96 interdisciplinary activities align to the GLCE's and are teacher-tested and classroom-ready. Topics include: Diversity, Interrelationships, Systems, and Patterns of Change. Presenting will be the Mike Mansour, Director of the Hawks Woods Nature Center and Lisa Perez, the Detroit Urban Connections Coordinator. The workshop takes place at the Hawks Woods Nature Center from 9:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on Saturday, April 21. The cost for Detroit teachers is $10, which includes lunch and the Project Learning Tree Activity Guide. For all teachers outside of Detroit, the cost is $35. Michigan High School Math and Science Symposium
The Michigan High School Math and Science Symposium is annual event that allows students to present their research projects to their peers in a professional environment. The students presenting worked on their research projects under the mentorship of a teacher or scientist. Applications to present at the symposium are due April 11, 2012. Fifteenth Annual Children's Water Festival

The Groundwater Management Board will host the Fifteenth Annual Children's Water Festival on Thursday, May 10, 2012, in Wells Hall on the Michigan State University campus. The free festival aims to educate fourth through sixth grade students on water conservation and protection. Hands-on activities and presentations will teach students about their relationship with this natural resource. Each 25 student session will last approximately 25 minutes. National Get Outdoors Day

June 9, 2012, has been designated National Get Outdoors Day.  This event is aimed at connecting kids to the outdoors and raise awareness of the benefits of an active lifestyle.  This year the Detroit area will be host to two events.  The Kids Fishing Fest can be found on the riverfront at Milliken State Park & Harbor, and you can also experience Get Outdoors Day at The Henry Ford's Greenfield Village.  Families will be able to learn about the numerous unique outdoor opportunities within Michigan, and kids can even become Junior Rangers!  Events will run from 9:30 am to 2:30 pm.  If you or your organization would like to provide information or experiences for Get Outdoors Day at Greenfield Village, please contact Lisa Perez, US Forest Service, at lperez@fs.fed.us.

Teachers: Be trained on the NEW MEECS Water Quality Unit!

Join us to learn how to use the new Michigan Environmental Education Curriculum Support (MEECS) Water Quality Unit in the classroom, 8:30 am-noon at Cranbrook Institute of Science. The MEECS Water Quality Unit helps students discover the essential role that water plays in Michigan's economy and in everyone's lives. Students calculate how much water they use, investigate the link between land uses and water quality, and discover how water is monitored and standards are set.

Cost for half-day session is $35.00 which includes curriculum binder, materials and snacks.

Great lakes Renewable energy Association: Michigan Energy Fair
The Great Lakes Renewable Enerkgy Association (GLREA) is a non-profit organization with the goal of promoting renewable energy in the Great Lakes Region. The GLREA was founded in 1991, originally headquartering in Traverse Cityl. This year, the GLREA will be holding their seventh annual Michigan Energy Fair.  The Michigan Energy Fair is a networking opportunity  for all those interested in renewable energy to discuss the matter. The fair combines speakers, food, activities and workshops, and music into a fun and educational weekend. Previous speakers at the Michigan Energy Fair have been Senator Debbie Stabenow, former Governor Jennifer Granholm, Lt. Shipboard & Shoreline Science Workshop aboard the R/V Lake Guardian!

Michigan Sea Grant Extension invites teachers in grades 4 - 10 to participate in a week-long professional development workshop aboard the U.S. EPA's 180-foot research vessel (R/V) Lake Guardian on Lake Huron from July 8-14, 2012.  Learn about Great Lakes and marine sciences and forge lasting relationships with other educators and leading research scientists.  Educators work beside scientists, conducting research and stopping in ports for additional science experiences.  Participants also examine curricula and resources, and explore classroom activities related to the Great Lakes and our world ocean.  The workshop, which will be conducted on Lake Huron, will begin and end in Port Huron, Michigan. Project WET is an award winning program that promotes awareness and appreciation of water resources and management. Project WET strives to instill core beliefs about water such as the importance of water education and sustainable water management.
