The DEQ recently welcomed five Detroit Edison MichCon Service Centers to the Clean Corporate Citizen Program, a voluntary environmental program that recognizes environmental stewardship at Michigan facilities.

The service centers, located in Cadillac, Grayling, Mt. Pleasant, Tawas, and Traverse City, received their C3 designation recognizing that they have demonstrated facility-specific environmental management systems, have active pollution prevention initiatives at their facilities and have a consistent record of compliance with state and federal environmental requirements.

"Attaining the Corporate Clean Citizen designation is a major milestone for our Central Region," said Robert Richard, MichCon senior vice president, gas operations. "Our environmental excellence includes ISO 14001 Certification in Environmental Programs, Wildlife Habitat Certification, as well as Corporate Clean Citizen. MichCon is the only gas Company in America to be working all of these processes. We lead in this effort and we congratulate the entire Central Region for this accomplishment."

The Detroit Edison MichCon Service Centers are natural gas distribution and service operations that are wholly owned subsidiaries of the DTE Energy Company. MichCon is one of the nation's largest natural gas utilities and has existed for over 150 years. The DTE Energy Company and Detroit Edison MichCon together constitute the largest energy company in the state. Detroit Edison MichCon services 1.2 million residential, commercial, and industrial customers in over 500 communities.
