The Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) proudly presents the Waste Management & Regulations Webinar Series. This series featured a monthly webinar that highlights specific topics associated with waste regulations and how to comply with them. The goal of the webinar series is to help businesses better understand how to properly manage their waste in accordance with applicable state and federal regulations. The webinars are introductory in nature and feature firsthand experience from a variety of staff from the DEQ’s Office of Waste Management and Radiological Protection. The webinars were hosted by the DEQ, Office of Public Affairs and Outreach.
MDEQ Hazardous Waste Generator Trainer - Self Certification Form
Attendees interested in using the webinars to satisfy hazardous waste generator training requirements may use this form to document the dates the webinars were viewed to provide "trainer" training. Viewers are encouraged to view each webinar that applies to their site-specific waste activities.

Policy and Law Changes Recommended to Increase Recycling and Sustainability in Michigan (recorded 7/12/17, 61 min)
In this webinar, attendees learn about the Solid Waste and Sustainability Advisory Panel’s (SWSAP’s) and the Governor’s Recycling Council’s (GRC’s) recommendations. Specifically, the webinar covers their recommendations for 1) a holistic infrastructure system for managing materials more sustainably, 2) revitalizing the solid waste law, 3) developing actionable steps to achieve Governor’s recycling goal, and 4) options for broad-based, long-term public and private funding to achieve the recommendations.

This webinar will provide attendees with an overview of the more notable changes associated with this rule package including Michigan’s adoption of 1) the federal disposable solvent wipes rule 2) the federal definition of solid waste changes establishing hazardous secondary materials for certain hazardous waste recycling activities 3) the federal legitimacy criteria for hazardous waste recycling 4) the federal coal combustion residue regulations 5) the federal carbon dioxide injection regulations and 6) the federal framework for electronic manifesting.
Conditionally Exempt Small Quantity Generator and Liquid Industrial By-product Generator Requirements (recorded 5/18/17, 90 min)
In this webinar, attendees learn what a generator must do to meet the conditionally exempt small quantity generator (CESQG) exemption from full regulation as a hazardous waste. Attendees also learn how exempted CESQG hazardous waste liquids and liquid industrial by-product must be managed to meet the state’s unique liquid industrial by-product regulations.
Hazardous Waste and Liquid Industrial By-Product Inspections and Recordkeeping (recorded 4/18/17, 67 min)
In this webinar, attendees learn about what to expect for an inspection and the specific records an inspector will want to see. It covers records that need to be maintained (e.g. waste characterizations, monthly waste inventory, uniform manifests, land disposal restriction notifications, etc.) and provides an overview of what happens when an inspector comes to your facility.

Michigan's New ReTRAC & Recycling Search System (Recorded 10/11/16)
In this webinar attendees will receive an overview of the new Part 175 Recycle Reporting law. DEQ staff will outline who is required to register and identify the reporting requirements under the law. The webinar will also highlight the functionality of the new Re-TRAC Reporting system for Part 175 and the Recycle Search system. The Recycle Search system is an on-line directory that aims to assist residents and community members with finding a location to recycle any of a wide variety of items. Companies and non-profits that provide recycling services will learn how to register and sign up with the Recycle Search system to help them promote the recycling or takeback services that they offer. There will be a Q & A session to field questions about these programs.

Waste 101 (Recorded 9/27/16, 61 min)
In this webinar attendees learn the basics about the various types of waste, what regulations apply, to whom and who implements the enforcement program. Attendees will come away with a big picture perspective of how the waste regulations work and what common wastes fall into the various regulations out there, including those that overlap.
