    Water Quality Monitoring

    • Michigan Water Quality Monitoring OverviewThe Department of Environmental Quality has several water quality monitoring programs that assist in keeping all of Michigan's water clean.


    The Michigan public beaches and recreational-use waterways program contains information about beach closings, monitoring efforts and E. coli test results. Data locaed on this site is entered and maintained by local health department offices.
    The Water Resources Division's Surface Water Assessment Section oversees the protection of the quality of surface waters throughout the State of Michigan.
    The DEQ, in partnership with the Michigan Lake and Stream Associations, Inc. (ML&SA), developed the Cooperative Lakes Monitoring Program (CLMP) as a cost-effective method for citizens to monitor water quality and to document changes in lake quality over time.
