Informational meeting set to discuss Genesco Tannery cleanup

The DEQ will host a March 21 public meeting in Whitehall to discuss recent cleanup actions conducted at the former Whitehall Leather Company property.

The meeting will take place from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at the White Lake Community Library, 3900 White Lake Drive in Whitehall.

Genesco is the former owner of the tannery site now responsible for the cleanup. The company has hired Horizon Environmental as its consultant. Horizon officials will outline cleanup activities completed on various areas of the site, including the southern wetland and upland area, Svensson Park, the former lagoon area, and the former parking lot. A question-and-answer session will follow the presentation.
