Water Quality and Pollution Control in Michigan Sections 303(d), 305(b), and 314 Integrated Report

WATER QUALITY AND POLLUTION CONTROL IN MICHIGAN 2010 SECTIONS 303(d), 305(b), AND 314 INTEGRATED REPORT

The Clean Water Act (CWA) requires Michigan to prepare a biennial report on the quality of its water resources as the principal means of conveying water quality protection/monitoring information to the United States Environmental Protection Agency (USEPA) and the United States Congress.  The Integrated Report satisfies the listing requirements of Section 303(d) and the reporting requirements of Section 305(b) and 314 of the CWA.  The Section 303(d) list includes Michigan water bodies that are not attaining one or more designated use and require the establishment of Total Maximum Daily Loads (TMDLs) to meet and maintain Water Quality Standards.

The Michigan Department of Environmental Quality (MDEQ), Water Resources Division (WRD), is accepting written comments between December 5, 2011, and January 13, 2012, on the draft Water Quality and Pollution Control in Michigan, 2012 Sections 303(d), 305(b), and 314 Integrated Report.  Every two years, the MDEQ, WRD, prepares and submits an Integrated Report to the United States Environmental Protection Agency to satisfy the listing requirements of Section 303(d) and the reporting requirements of Sections 305(b) and 314 of the federal Clean Water Act.  The Integrated Report describes the status of water quality in Michigan and includes a list of water bodies that are not attaining Michigan Water Quality Standards and require the establishment of pollutant Total Maximum Daily Loads.  The draft 2012 Integrated Report is available on the Web at www.michigan.gov/deqwater or by contacting Denise Page at 517‑335‑6969 or paged@michigan.gov.  Written comments may be submitted by January 13, 2012, to Kevin Goodwin, Michigan Department of Environmental Quality, Water Resources Division, 525 West Allegan Street, P.O. Box 30273, Lansing, Michigan 48909‑7773, or e‑mail at goodwink@michigan.gov.  Information Contact:  Kevin Goodwin at 517‑335-4185.
