| Burial Services |
SER assists with burial when the descendant's estate, mandatory copayments, etc. are not sufficient to pay for:
- Burial, or
- Cremation, or
- Costs associated with donation of a body to a medical school.
Note: An application for SER burial must be made no later than 10 calendar days after the burial, cremation or donation takes place.
The decedent's remains MUST be in Michigan. Transportation, or other charges to bring a decedent back to Michigan, are not covered by SER.

NOTE: Friends and relatives may supplement the SER burial payment in any amount up to $4,000 for additional services. If the total cost of all services provided exceeds the appropriate table amount plus the family supplement, no SER payment can be made. Only a DHS specialist can accurately determine your family's eligibility for this program. Ask for details when turning in a completed application at the DHS County Office in your area.
