Camp Health Officer Training - with Health Officer "Best Practices" Module 

May 31- June 3, 2011

This course will provide the participant with "Camp Health Officer" certification. Participants will be certified in CPR for the Professional Rescuer (valid for 1 year), AED (valid for 1 year), Bloodborne Pathogens Training (valid for 1 year), and *Wilderness and Remote First Aid (valid for 2 years). 

This course will also include additional Michigan State Licensing compliance information, med-pass information, and ACA Accreditation information!

Whether you're a scout, an outdoor enthusiast or you work in a camp environment, our Wilderness and Remote First Aid course gives you the skills you need to respond to an emergency when help may be delayed.

· Head (Brain), Neck and Spinal Injuries 

· Heat-Related Emergencies and Hypothermia 

· Altitude-Related Illnesses, Allergies and Anaphylaxis 

· Bone and Joint Injuries and Burns

The course is based on the Boy Scouts of America Wilderness First Aid Curriculum and Doctrine Guidelines and offers enhanced content and topics to meet OSHA's Best Practices for Workplace First Aid Training Programs. The program offers flexibility for organizations and their instructors to adapt the course to varying environments, therefore we feel it is the perfect course to compliment any camp environment and trains the camp health officer to account for an increased range of outdoor situations when considering treatment options. 

The class will meet May 31, starting at 10am and June 1-3 from 9:00am to 5:00pm and includes evening class work as well. Participants must be able to attend ALL hours that class is in session. The fee is $325 and includes course materials, meals, and accommodations. Participants will need to bring sleeping bag & pillows, towels, toiletries, etc. Please notify us of any special dietary requests or health needs.

Achieving Excellence 

The Education Committee of ACA, Michigan cordially invites you to the 2010 Leadership Summit. This update course is about 45 minutes and a required class for all camps being visited for accreditation this summer (highly recommended for all ACA accredited camps even if you are not getting visited) There is no cost for this class but registration is required.

MID STATES CAMPING CONFERENCE 

The Mid States Camping Conference welcomes you to join us in St. Charles, IL for our 18th annual gathering. Mid States is a fabulous opportunity to connect with camping professionals, train your staff, shop for deals, and fill your "bag of tricks". The 2010 theme is "Learn Together, Grow Together...and we can not only Survive, but Thrive! We will provide thought provoking presenters and wonderful opportunities to connect with your peers! 

The Mid States Camping Conference is a truly unique conference. It is organized by a volunteer Steering Committee made-up of members from the following ACA Sections: Great Rivers, Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Northland, Ohio, St. Louis and Wisconsin. All of the committee members are camping professionals dedicated to providing conference attendees with important and inspiring educational opportunities. From director to first year counselors, there is something for everyone with over 90+ Educational Sessions. Additionally, we will provide time and meeting space for your staff to come together during the  conference so that you can get a "jump" on your staff training. In conjunction with the conference, we will once again host the Leadership Institute (LI). Camp Health Officer

Lifeguard Instructor 

This course provides the participant with the ability to train and certify lifeguards through the American Red Cross. The pre-requisite is current lifeguard certification. Participants must be able to attend ALL hours that class is in session. Participants will need to bring sleeping bag (if staying overnight) & pillows, bathing suit, towels, toiletries, etc.           

Lifeguard Training                           

This course provides the participant with American Red Cross Lifeguard certification including Lifeguard First Aid, AED, and CPR for the Professional Rescuer. There are no pre-requisites for the course, however participants must have good swimming ability (can swim at least 500 yards), and the ability to pass both hands-on and written tests. Meals and housing are included. The class will meet from approximately 8:00am - 5:00pm each day. Participants must be able to attend ALL hours that class is in session. Participants will need to bring sleeping bag & pillows, bathing suit, towels, toiletries, etc.

CPR for the Professional Rescuer (also known as Lifeguarding CPR) 

This course provides participants with the CPR/PR recertification needed to maintain current Lifeguarding or Camp Health Officer certification. The pre-requisite is previous CPR/PR certification within one year.
