The Michigan Family Independence Agency (FIA), Office of Children and Adult Licensing issued an order of summary suspension and notice of intent to revoke action to Wayne County family day care home provider Veronica Wilson, 7750 Abington, Detroit, Michigan. Veronica Wilson was ordered to immediately cease providing care to children effective 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, December 11, 2003. This action is the result of a recent complaint investigation of the CDC family home.

Under Michigan statute, a Child Day Care Family Home is defined as "a private home in which 1 but fewer than 7 minor children are received for care and supervision for periods of less than 24 hours a day, unattended by a parent or legal guardian, except children related to an adult member of the family by blood, marriage, or adoption. Family day care home includes a home that gives care to an unrelated minor child for more than 4 weeks during a calendar year."

The December 5, 2003, findings of the complaint investigation are:

• On November 13, 2003, while in the care of Veronica Wilson, a day care child was sexually assaulted by another child while Veronica was sleeping.


• Other findings of this investigation revealed that Veronica Wilson uses the basement of her home as a nap area for day care children. Her basement is not approved for child care.

Effective 6:00 p.m., December 11, 2003, the Summary Suspension Order prohibits Veronica Wilson from operating a family day care home at 7750 Abington, Detroit, Michigan or at any other address or location. Children are not to be received for care after that date or time. The order also requires Veronica Wilson to inform all of the parents of children in her care that her license has been suspended and that she can no longer provide day care.

Veronica Wilson has held a certificate of registration to operate a Family Day Care Home since July 20, 1995. The certificate of registration was for 6 children.
