| Lisa Michels |
The July 1998 Achiever of the Month is Lisa Michels, the single mother of two children. She has faced many of the struggles that are common to single parents. In addition, Lisa was involved in problem past relationships. Finding the courage to break free was difficult, but she knew she needed to leave both relationships for herself and for her children. Lisa had been working at Trugreen-Chemlawn since 1993 but she was laid off in June of 1995. Rather than become discouraged, Lisa secured employment at Ric’s grocery store in Interlochen in November 1995. She had to stop working there because of a difficult pregnancy. To help make ends meet, Lisa turned to the FIA in September 1996, but she went back to Ric’s soon after her child was born. Later, Lisa heard that Trugreen-Chemlawn was hiring and she went back to work there because she had enjoyed her job. Lisa was referred to Work First in February of 1998. She states that her counselors were helpful in giving her the push she needed to be able to increase her hours at work. Her tremendous will to keep moving forward despite obstacles has paid off. Lisa FIP case closed in May of 1998. She has turned her life around and is a productive role model for her children.
