| Annette LittleJohn |
Annette LittleJohn of Kalamazoo was awarded the March 1996 Achiever of the Month Award. While she was a specialist in the U.S. Army, Annette found herself a single mother of two children. Since the Army required her to move often, she decided to leave the Army and join the Michigan National Guard in Kalamazoo. Unable to find employment in Kalamazoo, Annette sought help from the Family Independence Agency. She was referred to the Work First program where she attended personal growth classes, learned interviewing techniques and received help finding employment. Currently, Annette has three part-time jobs. In addition to being a member of the Michigan National Guard, she is a paraprofessional/activity helper at an elementary school and a dietary aide at a nursing home. Her future goals are to retire in two years from the National Guard which will enable her to receive full medical and dental benefits for herself and her children. She also plans to purchase a home. Annette's AFDC case closed in December 1995 due to excess income.
