March, 1995 Achiever of the Month Award recognizes Buu Quoc Chuong of Lansing who left Vietnam in 1989 with his wife and children and came to Michigan in August, 1991. Mr. Chuong has attended Lansing Community College since 1992 and worked part-time while attending school.
Occasionally, he received bus passes when his car broke down, but needed minimal assistance as he is extremely motivated and self-directed. He has been working at Aerotek, Incorporated as a draftsman since January, 1995 where he works full-time earning $11.50 an hour while balancing six credits at LCC and he has only one remaining class to receive his associates degree.
Mr. Chuong has overcome language and cultural differences and has provided an excellent example to his three children. His AFDC and Food Stamp cases have closed due to employment.
