Gerald Miller presented the November 1994 Achiever of the Month Award to Joyce Moore of Detroit. Ms. Moore needed public assistance after being diagnosed with cancer when her illness forced her to become unemployed. She was challenged by this adversity and while recuperating she participated in the Detroit-Self Employment Project. Ms. Moore formed a company called Multi-Case Systems which trains clients in the use, repair and maintenance of computers and she is in Multi-Community Support, a nonprofit organization that addresses community concerns for housing, crime and educational opportunities. She is also a City of Detroit Charter Commissioner, a Precinct Delegate and recently ran for State Representative. Her AFDC case is closed due to employment.
