Jill Noack of Berrien County, a single mother and parent advocate for families with special needs children, was the July 1994 Achiever of the Month.
Noack was selected because of her hard work and perseverance in completing her degree while going through a divorce and caring for three children, one of them a special needs child. At the time of her award, she had received an applied science degree in registered nursing from lake Michigan College in Benton Harbor, passed her state boards and was employed at Tri-State Rehabilitation Hospital in Buchanan.
Today she is employed by South Haven Community Hospital in the O.B. unit and has been promoted to charge nurse on her shift. Noack continues to be a parent advocate for families with children in special education by participating in IEPC (Individual Education Planning Committee) meetings. She also continues to volunteer in a community program known as C.A.U.S.E. (Citizen Alliance to Uphold Special Education).
When the July Achiever is out and about in the community, people still stop her and tell her how proud they are of her. Noack herself is proudest of her special education child, Ashley, who hasn't missed a single day of school in five years.
