Detroit resident Kirstae Hogan is the proud recipient of the Family Independence Agency’s (FIA) Achiever of the Month award for November 2004. This single parent of three children first came to the Wayne County, Lafayette District, FIA office in December 2003, when she was unemployed and needed help providing for her family.
Through the FIA, Ms. Hogan received Family Independence Program (FIP) benefits, Food Assistance and Medicaid. To assist Kirstae with finding employment the FIA referred her to the Work First provider, Ross Innovative Employment Solutions. They helped Kirstae with resume writing, one-on-one interviewing and income improvement skills.
In June 2004, as a result of her efforts, Kirstae found employment at a Popeye’s restaurant in Detroit. Work First helped her maintain employment by providing funds to purchase work clothing. The agency also supplied Kirstae with bus tickets to travel to work. Additionally, the FIA supported her work efforts by providing day care assistance.
Kirstae’s hard work quickly paid off. In June 2004, her FIP case closed due to her earnings.
In September 2004, Kirstae applied for employment at the Motor City Casino. She was hired and currently works there as a money runner.
Kirstae’s Food Assistance case closed in October 2004, due to her earnings. Kirstae’s children continue to receive Medicaid benefits.
Ms. Hogan is the 132nd Michigan resident to receive the Achiever of the month award.
