Rebecca Garza Rebecca Garza is the 109th recipient of the Family Independence Agency’s (FIA) Achiever of the Month award. This single mother of three first turned to the FIA for assistance in April 1989. At that time Rebecca was single, pregnant and needed help providing for herself and her unborn child. Through the Saginaw County FIA, Rebecca received Aid for Dependent Children, now known as the Family Independence Program (FIP) benefits, Medicaid, child day care and Food Assistance.

Rechealle Barrett Rechealle Barrett of St. Louis, Michigan was presented with the November 2002, Achiever of the Month award. This single mother of four first turned to the Family Independence Agency (FIA) for assistance in the summer of 1991. At that time, she was pregnant, her temporary summer job had just ended and she did not know where else to go for help. Through the Gratiot County FIA, Rechealle received Aid for Dependent Children, now known as the Family Independence Program (FIP) benefits, Food Assistance, Medicaid and day care.

Demetria and David Easterly The October 2002 Achiever of the Month award was presented to Demetria and David Easterly of Chesterfield. Mr. and Mrs. Easterly are the proud parents of two children. They turned to the Family Independence Agency (FIA) for assistance in July 2002. At that time, the family had recently relocated from Detroit to Macomb County, they were homeless and both parents were unemployed.

Mandy Rushlow and Jason Troop The September 2002 Achiever of the Month award was presented to Mandy Rushlow and Jason Troop of Newberry. The couple are the proud parent's of one child. They turned to the Family Independence Agency (FIA) for assistance in March 2002. At that time Mandy was unemployed and Jason had recently been laid off from a factory position due to downsizing.

Tracee Thomas Tracee Thomas of White Cloud was presented with the August 2002, Achiever of the Month award. This single mother of three first turned to the Family Independence Agency (FIA) for assistance in October 1995, and received Family Independence Program benefits through December 1997. She then left the state and moved to Oklahoma.

Emily Marcellino Emily Marcellino is the 104th recipient of the Family Independence Agency’s (FIA) Achiever of the Month award, July 2002. This single mother of two applied for public assistance in June 1995. At that time Emily was having difficulty finding employment and needed financial assistance to provide for her daughter. Through the Kent County FIA, she received Family Independence Program (FIP) benefits, food assistance, Medicaid and day care assistance off and on for several years.

Connie Friets In 1996, Connie Friets moved to Michigan from Colorado in search of a better life for her family. She was divorced, raising two kids without child support, unemployed and suffering from back problems. Her medical condition eventually led to surgery and resulted in her no longer being able to work as a house painter.

Farrah Scott The May 2002 Achiever of the Month award was presented to Farrah Scott of Muskegon. Ms. Scott is the single mother of two children. She came to the Family Independence Agency (FIA) for assistance in May 1996. At that time she was single, pregnant and having a difficult time providing for herself and her unborn child. Through the St. Clair County FIA she was approved for Family Independence Program (FIP) benefits, Medicaid, child day care and food assistance.

This single mother of two came to the Family Independence Agency (FIA) for assistance in 1996. At that time, she was pregnant and needed help providing for herself and her unborn child.

Raquel Dubois Raquel Dubois of Detroit was presented with the 100th Achiever of the Month Award in March 2002. This mother of three first turned to the Family Independence Agency (FIA) for assistance as a pregnant teenager in February 1987. She had no transportation, limited education and no child care.

Connie Kramer The February 2002 Achiever of the Month Award was presented to Connie Kramer of Branch County. Connie Kramer is the single mother of one child. She first turned to the Family Independence Agency (FIA) for assistance in 1995. In 1998, Connie left Michigan and moved south. Unfortunately, while living in Florida she was in a serious auto accident.

She first turned to the Family Independence Agency (FIA) for assistance in 1988. At that time she was single, pregnant and needed help providing for herself and her unborn child.
