Indian Outreach Services is an DHS program which has staff in 12 counties in Michigan. The staff of this program are Indian Outreach Workers and they provide a valuable link to the Indian community.
The program's goal is to meet the needs of Native Americans by serving as a liaison between state and federal programs operated by DHS and other agencies, the Indian community, Tribes and tribal organizations.
The Indian Outreach Workers provide a wide range of services to Indian children and families. To be eligible for Indian Outreach Worker assistance, a Native American does not need to be eligible for financial assistance. There is no means test. The only eligibility requirement is that you must be of Native American descent. If you are unsure of your tribal affiliation or degree of Indian heritage, the IOW is able to assist in making this determination.
