• Another kind of spring green: DHS turns $1 into $16 million. About 360,000 people receiving food assistance will get an increase in benefits, starting in March, when DHS provides $1 in federal Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) funds, which help people pay for heat, to the 848,000 Michigan households receiving food assistance.

But with that staggering increase in demand for services come myths that are tarnishing the purpose of the welfare system. The DHS launched a statewide campaign to bust those myths with facts.
