Director of Strategic Policy
Carol A. Steffanni is the Director of Strategic Policy for the Michigan Department of Information Technology, a position she has held since March of 2003. In this role, she oversees a staff of strategic planners and outreach specialists. Ms. Steffanni works closely with MDIT Director and State CIO Ken Theis to strategically align the department's initiatives with the Governor's priorities and map a strategic plan for the department. Under her leadership, her division is charged with implementing strategically focused initiatives to provide efficient and effective delivery of services across government at the lowest cost to the state.
Prior to her current position, Ms. Steffanni served as the Chief Information Officer and Director of Information Technology for Wayne County from 1997 thru 2003. She also held various other positions within Wayne County in both the executive and legislative branches, including Assistant County Executive through which she developed a legislative tracking system, managed public relations efforts, and directly reported to the Chairman of the County Commission. Ms. Steffanni has been profiled for her work in Government Technologies and Governing Magazine.
Ms. Steffanni earned her Bachelor's degree from Eastern Michigan University. In addition, she holds a Masters degree from Bowling Green State University, and has completed her PhD course work and exams at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor.
