The purpose of this standard is to establish a common set of allowable methods for remote wireless access to e-mail and other associated groupware functionality through the use of commercial wireless cellular telecommunications systems.

This standard establishes allowable methods for remote wireless access to e-mail and groupware applications.  Maintaining adequate security features including message integrity and confidential communication will be sufficiently achieved by adherence to the methods outlined in this standard.
