May 26, 2009
The Michigan Public Service Commission (MPSC) today approved a settlement agreement authorizing Upper Peninsula Power Company to implement its renewable energy plan (REP), its energy optimization (EO) plans, and surcharges, as required by Public Act 295 of 2008.
The REP satisfies the requirements of Public Act 295. Because the utility does not expect to incur any additional costs under its REP, it did not request a REP surcharge.
The utility is authorized to implement the EO surcharge beginning July 1 and thereafter. The average residential electric customer using 500 kilowatt-hours (kWh) will see a monthly EO surcharge of $1.05.
The utility, Michigan Technological University and MPSC staff participated in the settlement proceedings.
The MPSC is an agency within the Department of Energy, Labor & Economic Growth.
