MPSC Approves Settlement Agreement Authorizing Wisconsin Public Service Corporation to Implement Its Renewable Energy and Energy Optimization Plans

Contact:  Judy Palnau (517) 241-3323

May 26, 2009

The Michigan Public Service Commission (MPSC) today approved a settlement agreement authorizing Wisconsin Public Service Corporation to implement its renewable energy plan (REP), its electric and natural gas energy optimization (EO) programs, and its EO surcharges, as required by Public Act 295 of 2008.

The REP satisfies the requirements of Public Act 295.  Because the utility does not expect to incur any additional costs under its REP, it did not request a REP surcharge.

The utility is authorized to implement the EO surcharges beginning July 1 and thereafter.  The average residential electric customer using 500 kilowatt-hours (kWh) will see a monthly surcharge of 65 cents.  The average residential natural gas customer using 100 hundred cubic feet (ccf) will see a monthly surcharge of $1.40.

The utility, SFK Pulp Recycling U.S. Inc., and the MPSC staff participated in the settlement proceedings.

The MPSC is an agency within the Department of Energy, Labor & Economic Growth.

Case Nos. U-15811 and U-15894
