Agency: Energy, Labor & Economic Growth

October 2, 2009 - Media representatives are invited to attend the presentation of Governor Granholm's proclamation announcing Fire Prevention Week in Michigan on Monday, October 5, at 10 a.m. in the Rotunda of the State Capitol in Lansing.

The Michigan Bureau of Fire Services joins the National Fire Protection Agency in this year's campaign "Stay Fire Smart! Don't Get Burned" which focuses on burn awareness and keeping homes safe from the leading causes of home fires.

State Fire Marshal Ronald R. Farr will kick off a week of fire safety, prevention and protection education activities for Michigan residents sponsored by first responders throughout the state. Farr will discuss the many ways of staying fire smart in the home including reducing hazards that can lead to burns and scalds; having working smoke alarms and a practiced home fire escape plan; and thoroughly inspecting home heating and electrical systems.

The Bureau of Fire Services and Office of the State Fire Marshal serve to protect lives and property by fostering a fire safe environment through inspections, plan review, enforcement, regulation, fire fighter training, data collection and public fire education.
