| Issued and entered June 23, 1988 by Herman W. Coleman, Commissioner
of Insurance
In accordance with Sections 2477A, B, and C of
the Insurance Code of 1956, as amended by Public Act 173 of
1986, all insurers providing municipal liability coverage are
required to report specific claims information to the Michigan
Commissioner of Insurance.
Public Act 173 of 1986 amended Sections 2477A, B, and C of
the Code to require that each insurer providing municipal liability
insurance, every person other than an insurer who pays or has
assumed liability to pay a municipal liability claim and every
attorney who represents a plaintiff or defendant shall submit
the data prescribed. Therefore, the Insurance Bureau has developed
a new form to facilitate compliance with the reporting requirements
of Sections 2477A, B, and C of the Code. These forms are to
be completed and submitted within thirty days after filing or
closure of a claim. These forms are not supplied by the Insurance
Bureau and must be reproduced by your office.
Public Act 173 also eliminated the requirement that products
liability claim information be reported to the Bureau. Therefore,
it is no longer necessary to submit products liability claim
reports.
This bulletin supersedes Bulletin 79-5, issued on April 17, 1979. Form
790501 and 790502 have been replaced by INS 950.
