Adjuster Emergency/Catastrophe Licensing

Untitled Document Out-of-state adjusters who are required to become licensed in Michigan prior to adjusting claims due to a natural catastrophe (e.g. flood or tornado) should contact the Office of Financial and Insurance Services, Insurance Licensing, at 877/999-6442 to schedule an appointment. The adjusting firm should be prepared with the names of all adjusters who will be submitting applications for licensure.

Individuals requesting licensure will be referred to the Lansing assessment center. Each individual must submit an application in person and should supply the items normally required for nonresident adjuster licensing: the FIS 0221, FIS 0223, nonpersonal check or money order made payable to the State of Michigan for $15.00, and a letter of certification 90 days old or less from the state where the individual passed the adjuster examination. An instant license may be issued to a candidate who submits all the information required as well as an application which has all background information questions answered “no”. Any application with a “yes” answer to a background information question will be pended for contact by a licensing technician, and an instant license will not be issued.
