The Michigan Public Service Commission (MPSC) today granted two licenses to alternative electric suppliers. An alternative electric supplier (AES) is a person selling electric generation service to retail customers in Michigan, other than a person who physically delivers electricity to retail customers.
In Case No. U-14548, the MPSC granted a license to Peoples Energy Services Corporation as an AES.
In Case No. U-14724, the MPSC granted a license to Direct Energy Services, LLC as an AES, subject to the filing of quarterly reports on its Michigan operations with the MPSC for the next four quarters.
The Commission approved the licenses because it determined that the companies possess sufficient technical competence to engage in energy transactions, are capable of meeting safety requirements for electric operations, and comply with other lawful obligations.
In addition, the Commission conditioned the licenses on compliance with all applicable provisions of the Customer Choice and Electricity Reliability Act and the MPSC’s orders and providing service to customers within a reasonable time. Failure to comply may result in revocation of the licenses or other penalties.
The MPSC is an agency within the Department of Labor & Economic Growth.
