The Michigan Public Service Commission (MPSC) today authorized Michigan Consolidated Gas Company to revise its uncollectible expense true-up mechanism (UETM) surcharge, beginning in January, 2008 and continuing throughout the year.
The company, on March 23, filed an application seeking MPSC approval of its UETM computation and proposed surcharge.
Each year, the company files an application with the MPSC comparing its actual uncollectibles expense for the previous calendar year with its base level of uncollectibles expense contained within the company's rates. The company then collects from, or refunds to, customers 90 percent of the difference between those amounts to its customers over the next 12 month period.
In today's order, the MPSC found $33.4 million in uncollectibles. As a result, residential customers will see a surcharge of $1.6633 cents per hundred cubic feet (Ccf) on their monthly bills.
The MPSC is an agency within the Department of Labor & Economic Growth.
