July 2, 2008 - Governor Jennifer M. Granholm will confer certificates to individuals who have
completed the Road Construction Apprenticeship Readiness Program (RCAR) at 6:30
p.m. on Tuesday,
July 8, 2008. The event will take place at the Greater
Grace Temple.
RCAR is tuition-paid, fast-track, customized training that equips women, minorities, and low-income individuals
with the skills and certification they need to enter and succeed in road
construction apprenticeships. The inaugural group of RCAR-certified individuals
who completed the rigorous curriculum is part of the new initiative under the
Road Construction Workforce Development Program.
Partners in the RCAR initiative include the state Department
of Labor & Economic Growth and the Department of Transportation, Federal
Highway Administration, the skilled trades, organized labor, federal and state
agencies, faith-based organizations, and education providers that have been
instrumental in making RCAR a national model for apprenticeship readiness and
success. Guests, partners, and training
providers will attend the ceremony.
