NOVEMBER 21, 2001 - The Michigan Department of Consumer & Industry Services (CIS) has summarily suspended the registered nurse license of Monica Ann Auito, R.N., for violating the terms of probation concerning substance abuse treatment and monitoring. The CIS Bureau of Health Services orders a summary suspension when it believes the public’s health, safety and welfare warrant emergency action.
Auito was required by a Board of Nursing order to enter into a regulatory monitoring agreement with the Health Professional Recovery Program (HPRP), a monitoring program that supports recovery from substance abuse, chemical dependence and mental illness. Enacted legislatively in 1994, the HPRP encourages health professionals to address their problems before their impairment harms a patient or damages their careers.
Although Auito initially agreed to the requirements of the program, she was not successful at following the recommended terms of the monitoring agreement. An administrative hearing will be scheduled to address the status of Auito’s suspended nursing license.
Additional information about the HPRP is available by calling 1-800-453-3784.
