Contact:  Maura Campbell 517.373.9280
Agency: Labor & Economic Growth

DECEMBER 10, 1999 - Michigan Department of Consumer & Industry Services (CIS) Director Kathy Wilbur today announced that attorney Michael Zimmer will head the newly created CIS Bureau of Hearings beginning Jan. 10, 2000.

"Mike will be a wonderful addition to our department," said Wilbur. "He has the perfect blend of legal, policy, and legislative experience to head our new centralized hearings operation."

The Department of Consumer & Industry Services conducts nearly 80 percent of all Administrative Law Hearings in the State of Michigan. The Bureau of Hearings helps the department more effectively serve the needs of licensees and the public by ensuring that hearings are conducted in a timely and thorough manner. Zimmer will head a staff of approximately 40 individuals.

Most recently, Zimmer has served as the Director of the Office of Regulatory Reform in the Governor’s Office. Previously he held key staff positions in the Michigan Senate from 1984 through 1995. An honors graduate in Agricultural Economics from Michigan State University in 1979, Zimmer received his law degree from The National Law Center at George Washington University in 1982.
