AUGUST 6, 1997 - The Unemployment Insurance (UI) system's direct customer service focus -- providing temporary insurance benefit payments to those trying to find jobs -- meshes well with our department's mission as the state's primary regulatory agency. No other department has experienced as many transitions as CIS. We plan to use that experience to ensure a seamless and timely transfer of responsibility as we strive to improve the system and services provided.
We are excited and challenged by this new responsibility. As one of the state's most customer service oriented departments, CIS will be actively engaging the customers, staff, and business and labor communities to improve efficiencies and enhance service in this critical state program.
From a customer-service viewpoint, reuniting the Unemployment Insurance appeals process with the Board of Review -- already in CIS - makes sense. It will result in a more efficient and quicker means of resolving disputes.
We view this as an opportunity to continue making government more user-friendly and are anxious to roll up our sleeves and get to work.
