OCTOBER 06, 1998 - Providing information on electric restructuring, and educating consumers about energy efficiency and renewable energy options, are the aims of state grants to two Oakland County agencies, announced Governor John Engler.
The Upland Hills Ecological Awareness Center in Oxford was awarded $6,360 to educate consumers about energy efficiency through displays, posters and other materials, and upgrade its wind generator system. The Oakland Livingston Human Service Agency in Pontiac will receive $5,000 to offer an electric choice education project aimed at helping senior citizens, low-income citizens and other Oakland and Livingston residents understand electric restructuring choices.
"These grants will provide very valuable energy efficiency tips, and important information about the impact of electric restructuring on Michigan residents," said Engler.
The grants were awarded by the Energy Resources Division of the Michigan Department of Consumer & Industry Services (CIS).
"We're pleased to fund such practical, consumer-oriented projects," said CIS Director Kathleen Wilbur.
The grants are part of more than $100,000 in federal awards to 20 nonprofit and public agencies to educate consumers about energy efficiency and renewable energy options
