DECEMBER 03, 2003 - The Michigan Department of Consumer & Industry Services (CIS) has summarily suspended the nursing license of Latonya Sheree Lewis-Royster, L.P.N., due to her June 11, 2001, felony conviction of Welfare Fraud in the Third Judicial Circuit Court, Wayne County, Michigan. Lewis-Royster was sentenced to three years probation and ordered to pay restitution for fraudulently misrepresenting her income to receive monetary relief. Lewis-Royster failed to report her conviction to CIS as required by the Public Health Code.
On November 24, 2003, CIS issued an order which summarily suspended Lewis-Royster’s license pursuant to the Public Health Code, which provides for the mandatory summary suspension of a health professional upon the conviction of a felony. An administrative hearing will be scheduled to address the status of Lewis-Royster’s nursing license.
