The bill amends the Public Health Code to provide that only certain individuals may surgically remove a human organ. These individuals include a licensed physician, an individual acting under delegated authority of a licensed physician, and, for eyes only, an individual certified by a State Medical School. The House Criminal Law and Corrections Committee added an amendment to the bill clarifying that out-of-state physicians could remove an organ in Michigan under certain circumstances.
An individual violating the new requirement would be guilty of a felony.
