(March 2, 2007) Legislation strengthening standards for deaf person interpreters received a hearing this week in the House Regulatory Reform Committee. The bill expands the scope of the state's Deaf Persons' Interpreters Act to all settings covered by federal law. Currently, the Michigan law is limited to the judicial arena, but federal law covers governmental, financial, and health care settings. House Bill 4208 will be voted on at next week's committee meeting.
