Cancer Presumption Bill for Firefighters

(April 18, 2007) Committees in both the House and Senate considered bills yesterday creating a presumption in the worker's compensation law for certain types of cancers for firefighters. Neither House Bill 4401 nor Senate Bill 102 was reported by the respective committees, but it is likely that the House Labor Committee will revisit the issue next week. The bills were supported by various organizations representing firefighters and fire chiefs and opposed by the Michigan Municipal League and the Michigan Townships Association. This issue has a long history in the Michigan Legislature. Similar bills have been introduced in many previous sessions.
