Supplemental Appropriations Bill Approved

(May 3) Senate Bill 404, which provides for supplemental funding for the fiscal year 2006-07 budget, passed the House and Senate this week. Included in the supplemental are $4.7 million in TAA (Trade Adjustment Assistance) funding and $35 million in WIA (Workforce Investment Act) funding from the United States Department of Labor. These additional federal funds will be used to provide additional workforce training dollars to the local Michigan Works! Agencies and assist workers whose jobs are affected by foreign trade. The bill was presented to the Governor on May 3 for signature.
